Sharing info at work is hard

Companies struggle to share internal success in a meaningful way that feels genuine. Internal emails from your HR or marketing department help highlight large events and milestones but don’t have the same impact as someone posting on a slack channel “hey look at the cool thing I did” and no where close to the happiness when your friend texts or calls you to tell you some good news.

Should we spend more time talking about the hard parts?

“without sadness there is no happiness” - clique Working with a bunch of engineers both mechanical and software we all enjoy talking about the problem each other are facing in our respective team. As a software person I often don’t fully understand the problems a mechanical engineer is working through but learning about the challenges and requirements they are aiming to meet allows me to appreciate the work they are doing. Which means if in a couple I hear they completed a part design I understand it wasn’t a trivial problem. Real work happened.

Jira tickets are for tracking not informing

  • The information to work a feature/bug is not always in a ticket
    • error logs
    • slack message threads
    • pointers to spots in code my informed people (“I think the bug is in this file”)
  • tickets closed by
