It’s easy to collect more data (strava, garmin, whoop, etc)
turn on an app when you run or slap on another device
But for a normal person beyond their split time what should we actually get from it?
When I run I look at four numbers: distance, pace, heart rate, & elapsed time
distance: I currently don’t set a specific target distance (I probably should) . Mentally 3-5 miles feels like a good after work run when I don’t have a plan
pace & heart rate: These are always thought of together. I’m often aiming for that magic zone 2. If my heart rate jumps you can clearly see where I started running faster.
elapsed time: Because I want it to be over…
Health vs Fitness Data?
There is probably a venn diagram where the overlap is high but not 100%.
Health data looks to the past for markers of bad things to come.
Fitness data aims to informs you about what changes you should make in the future.
